Recovery of Zinc and Copper from Mine Tailings by Acid Leaching Solutions Combined with Carbon-Based Materials

Mine tailing storage represents an important environmental issue. The generation and dispersal of dust from mine tailings can contaminate air surrounding soils. In addition, metals soluble salts present in these wastes could pollute groundwater surface water. recovery contribute to minimize the risk achieve a circular economy model. main objective work is study use two carbon-based materials, commercial activated carbon (AC) charcoal (VC) leaching zinc copper low-grade waste. Experimental results obtained show that it possible more than 87 wt% Zn after 6 h with different sulfuric acid solutions. addition materials increases extraction at high concentrations (1 M) 89% 99%. VC significantly Cu solution concentration M), 41 61%. Future research will be necessary optimize properties their experiments order assess potential for industrial application.
